Chicken Harte Homestead
About Us:
Thank you for visiting our website! We are located in upstate New York. We are small-time homesteaders focused on providing a better quality of life--and food--for our family.
Our son Riley has Autism. We started raising goats to help him learn important life skills, including how to bond emotionally.
Riley takes medication daily for his condition. We give it to him in yogurt or milk to make it more palatable. As such, it made sense for us to raise goats that are small in size but prolific when it comes to producing milk.
Breeding these goats will not only help us produce yogurt; we will also produce cheese and soap. The products will be natural and beneficial. This leads us to the here and now. We've decided to breed our own goats in order to keep a clean, disease-free herd. We're expecting our first kids in the spring of 2022, and our next the following fall.
Donating
Since we're grateful to be able to provide for our own family, we also have a desire to give back. In order to do so, we will donate $50 for every goat we sell to the Devin M. Housman Memorial Scholarship Fund. Like Riley, Devin--who tragically died, aged only 22--was a person with special needs. In order to keep Devin's light shining, the Housman family has established a scholarship which will be awarded yearly to a student who, like Devin, enjoys the arts and demonstrates kindness to others. We'll also donate 10% of the profits from our other product sales as well.
